MMUST’s Innovation Academy has attracted recognition and support from the University of Oulu in Finland, who are keen to support MMUST innovators with raw materials for developing prototypes. This comes at a time when the University has also been nominated to participate in the upcoming Presidential Innovation Challenge and Award Pitching Festival set to take place from 17th to 21st March, 2025 at the Morendat Institute of Oil and Gas, Naivasha.

On 15th March 2025, The Science Park Innovation and Incubation Centre (SPIIC) took part in a significant Mental Health Day event at the Lugala Education Complex. Organized by the Kakamega Forest Heritage Foundation, this event aimed to raise awareness about mental health among high school students, equipping them with the knowledge and resources to prioritize their well-being.
On 10th and 11th December 2024, the team represented the university in Embu, during the Embu Annual Innovation Week. The chief guest was PS Education, Dr. Beatrice Inyangala who was so impressed by the MMUST stand
The Science Park Innovation and Incubation Centre (SPIIC) at MMUST has kicked off activities in preparation for the highly anticipated launch of the institution’s Innovation Academy. Yesterday, 11th February 2025, the Director, SPIIC, Dr. Tecla Sum started off Pre- hackathon activities in readiness for the real hackathon set to take place on Thursday, 13th and Friday,14th February 2025.
In a bid to boost the culture of innovation, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) from 13th to 14th February, 2025, conducted the inaugural Innovation Championships themed, ‘Incubate, Innovate, and Transform our World’. The championships, which saw the launch of Science Park Innovation Academy, brought together innovators, researchers, policy-makers, and industry players, to witness MMUST’s cutting-edge innovations, as well as to support the University in this new initiative. The two-day event was organized by the Directorate of Science Park Innovation and Incubation Centre (SPIIC), led by Dr. Tecla Sum, and was graced by Mr. Fredrick Otswong’o, a Patent Agent at the Kenya Industrial Property Institute (KIPI).
